About Danièle Cybulskie

My Story

Danièle Cybulskie has been researching and writing about the Middle Ages for over a decade. She is the author of The Five-Minute Medievalist and a featured writer at Medievalists.net. A former college professor, she earned an M.A. in English literature from the University of Toronto, where she specialized in medieval literature and Renaissance drama. Danièle worked as the subject matter expert on OntarioLearn’s The Middle Ages and the Modern World: Facts and Fiction, now being offered at nine Ontario colleges, and her work has been published in three international magazines, spanning topics from The Hundred Years’ War to Roman togas. Her mission is to make history fun, entertaining and engaging, and to draw attention to our shared human nature across the centuries. When she’s not reading or writing, Danièle can be found drinking tea, practicing archery, or sometimes building a backyard trebuchet.

As an author, former college professor, and avid pop-culture fanatic, Danièle is adept at blending her knowledge of history, literature, and media into lively and entertaining presentations with something new for everyone to learn. Using photos, manuscript images, video, and historical replicas, Danièle will take your employees on a fun and informative journey through the most recent historical scholarship without being stuffy or boring. Each of Danièle’s talks includes:
  • a multimedia presentation (one hour)
  • an optional question-and-answer period (up to half an hour)
  • historical (replica) artifacts
  • copies of her book The Five-Minute Medievalist for purchase and autographing
Currently, Danièle is offering Filthy and Flat: Myth-Busting the Middle Ages, a presentation that covers some of the most persistent misconceptions about the medieval period from bathing habits to politics, from religious beliefs, to sex lives.
