Topics

A) “Boost Your Brain – Food and Fitness to Improve Mood, Memory and Learning”

The research is clear.   We know food is medicine.   We know exercise is medicine too.   Combine both and you have a prescription for healthy living. But did you know that eating the right foods and performing the right exercises are not just good for the body, but the brain too?     “Boost Your Brain – Food and Fitness to Improve Mood, Memory and Learning,” is a one hour “lunch and learn” presentation that focuses on the relationship of  exercise and diet  to brain health with information on how to choose the right exercises and make the right food choices to bolster mental and cognitive health.  This presentation begins with a fun group exercise activity to get everyone in the mood to learn and ends with suggestions on how to prepare simple brain boosting snacks to take to work.

B) “Diet Decoder – The Pros and Cons of Popular Diets”

Keto Diet. Paleo Diet. Low Carb Diet. Mediterranean Diet.  Another week…another new trending diet.  With so many diets being promoted for their purported benefits, how can you make sense of any of them and how can you tell if they are right for you?    “Diet Decoder –  The Pros and Cons of Popular Diets”  – is an hour long “lunch and learn” presentation that breaks down the details of popular diets and eating plans to help consumers make an informed decision about the benefits and drawbacks of today’s popular diets.    This workshop will also include info on commercial diet plans like Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig and  a special section on the newly revised Canada Food Guide and how to use this latest version as part of a healthy eating plan.  The one hour session begins with a fun, interactive group exercise activity to get people moving, mobile and stimulated to learn.

C) “Eat Your Meds – The Mediterranean Diet for a Healthy Workday”

In 2019, 41 diet and nutrition programs were rated by U.S. News and World Report magazine. The best overall diet among all 41 tested was also ranked #1 for managing diabetes, #1 in heart health, the best “plant-based” diet and the easiest to follow among all the diet and nutrition plans reviewed. Which one was it?

The Mediterranean Diet.  (link: https://health.usnews.com/best-diet/mediterranean-diet)

In this one hour lunch and learn presentation, titled, “Eat Your Meds –  The Mediterranean Diet for a Healthy Workday,”  we’ll learn all about the Mediterranean Diet,  why it earned it’s #1 ranking in so many categories and how you can follow the Mediterranean Diet at home, at work and even at fast food restaurants. It’s simple. It’s easy. It’s healthy. And best of all, it’s really not even a “diet.”    And since any good weight management program deserves a good workout, we start with a few minutes of easy and entertaining group exercise and end with a demonstration of a simple, compact and portable workout you can do anywhere, any time.

D) “Diet for a Healthy MIND”

It’s a fact.   As Canadians are getting older and grayer, there is an increasing emphasis today on optimal ways to maintain cognitive health.  In the absence of any medication or “magic bullet” to reverse memory loss, experts in the field of brain research emphasize the importance of lifestyle habits to keep the brain strong and vibrant.  That includes exercise, social interaction, sleep…and a healthy nutrition plan.  Welcome to the “MIND” diet – the first evidence based diet that specifically addresses how to use food and fuel to stay cognitively well.

In “Diet for a Healthy MIND”  this  “lunch and learn” presentation begins  a short and stimulating brain boosting group exercise  activity and then moves to a discussion on the negative  impact of sugar on the brain, an introduction to the “MIND” diet and the science behind it to reverse sugar’s effect on brain health and finally how to eat “MINDfully” at home, at work, and on the road.
